What a pleasure it was to attend my first Annual Dinner with you on Saturday! The enthusiasm and excitement in the air was palpable. Thanks to Stephanie Samson for all her efforts making the event such an overwhelming success! I also want to thank the members of our Stewardship team, Penny Reid, Sunny Cook and Karen Olson for helping to inspire the great generosity we celebrated. Thanks to Deena Romoff, Kelly LaGrutta and Ashe for all the OUTSTANDING entertainment! Thanks to David Boose for being such a fantastic MC! And thanks to all our table hosts who made our place feel so festive! And, of course, thanks to all of you who have pledged to support our church and its mission during the coming year! Although we are still waiting for a few more pledges to come in, at $370,000+ we seem well on our way to meeting our minimum goal of $390,000. If you’ve not done so yet, you can still easily make your pledge online at:

One event I will not be participating in is the Bloomsday Race this weekend, exciting as it all sounds. But I do want to remind you, since it will be impossible to get to our church with 50,000 runners and walkers on the road, that we will not be holding services this Sunday, May 6. I look forward to seeing you again Sunday May 13 (unless I should spy you whizzing by my place on Bloomsday).

Bloomsday Reminder

You don’t have to be a devotee of the Flying Spaghetti Monster to enjoy a delicious spaghetti dinner this Saturday night, May 5th, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Proceeds from the event will go to help support Camp Starwheel. Suggested donations are $7 for adults, $5 for children and students, and $20 for families.

Washington United for Marriage is seeking volunteers to help make calls asking voters to support marriage equality during the November elections. UUCS member Nancy Avery is organizing a group from our church to fill a phone bank sometime before June 6. Training will be provided in advance. If you can help, please contact Nancy directly at: nancy.avery@comcast.net

A forum on Gay/Straight Alliances in Our High Schools is happening this Saturday, from 1:00 to 4:00 at WSU/EWU Riverpoint Campus. It will take place in room 20 of the Student Academic Center (600 N. Riverpoint Blvd.).

In case you haven’t heard, last week the Death Penalty was repealed in Connecticut and California approved a referendum to vote on abolishing it this November. Hurray!!!

A little Good News

I’ve been asked to speak on “Marriage Equality as a Faith Issue,” as part of forum this Thursday night, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Bethany Presbyterian Church (2607 S. Ray St.). This is part of the Shower of Stoles Exhibit events now happening in Spokane.
